Louisville Agricultural ClubProfessionals Connecting through agriculture since 1948 |
Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “Agriculture … is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness.”
That truth still holds. We need farmers and agricultural leaders every single day—people who understand the land, who support our rural communities, and who help feed and sustain the world.
The Louisville Agricultural Club has believed in that mission for a long time. Founded in 1948, the Club has spent more than seven decades educating members on the issues facing agricultural producers and professionals across Kentucky and Indiana. Our monthly meetings bring people together to learn, to share, and to strengthen the agricultural community.
One of the Club’s most meaningful commitments is its scholarship program. In 1983, Howard Kamin had the vision to ensure the Club would be more than just a luncheon group. He opened the scholarship fund with just $300 and a belief that investing in young people would strengthen agriculture for generations. It took five years to award the first scholarship, but Howard’s perseverance—and the generosity of our members—built something remarkable.
Under the supervision of Spencer County Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension agent, Bryce Roberts, the fund has continued to grow. Scholarships have been supported through many efforts over the years, but today it is our members’ time serving as the voice of Freddy Farm Bureau during the Kentucky State Fair that keeps this program thriving.
Since the program began, more than $300,000 has supported approximately 100 students pursuing agricultural degrees in Kentucky and Indiana.
